Assignment 4__Derek

1. Yes, there are definitely places in Taiwan that lack sustainability planning, but I am not sure where these places are. I think these places are lack of sustainability planning because even though there’s sustainability program in Taiwan, it has not been carrying out properly. Sustainability programs in Taiwan are mainly about afforestation (tree planting).

2. I think it is extremely important to make plans for the sustainability because this is the only way to keep our eco-system alive. By doing so, this provides endangered species a place to live, and will save them from extinction. In addition, a great sustainability will slowdown global warming, and will give us a great environment to live in, for both our future generations and ourselves.

3. I think it’s a smart move to gather these groups to make an important decision like this. Because with these different groups of people, it’s more easier to come up with the best solution, cause everyone can share their thoughts and ideas, and this often leads to a better solution.

4. As mentioned before, I think it is extremely important for us to work hard to help preserve the environment. Because not only animal needs to have a clean environment to live in, as a human being, we need to have a clean environment as well.

Assignment 4__Steven

1. Yes, there are many places in Taiwan that are lack of sustainability planning. Wetlands, for example, are lack of sustainability, and that’s why big organizations and governments are interest in finding ways to “make good use of it”. It is sad that nowadays people can’t see the importance of sustainability, but economic growth and their own benefits. In other words, people today don’t care about future, but now.

2. Of course, protecting the environment and make plans for the sustainability areas are very important. It’s very important because this will protect those endangered animals and will give us a cleaner place to live. People need to have a clean environment to live, and this is probably why there is a lot of cancer these days, because people are living in heavily polluted enviornment and are eating non-natural things!

3. It is important for these groups to work together because these people are professionals in different areas. By joining together, they will give professional recommendations to one another, this way; it’s easier to come up with a better solution and can prevent conflicts.

4. I think it’s better to help preserve, but I know the importance on economic reform. So I think we should find a way to balance, so we can have a good economic reform yet preserve our natural environment.

Assignment 4__Max

1. Is there a similar area of Taiwan or Korea that is under threat of because of a lack of sustainability planning?
Yes. There are some pollution in Taiwan, like air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and soil pollution. We have planned some methods to deal with these problems by our government.

2. In this article the government, logging Companies, first nations organizations, and environmental organizations are all working together, do you think it is important to involve all these groups when making decisions? Support your answer with an explanation.

I think this sustainable plan for these bears is good, or they will not become extinct.
In addition, I think it is necessary to ask some professors, businessmen and experts to think together. But sometimes, the businessmen will think their profits into this account. I don’t think it is a good idea. However, how to come to the balance between business and protection is very difficult.

3. Do you feel the environment is a problem and we should be working to help preserve it or that governments should be concentrating on economic reform?

3. Yes. Because if they don’t plan together, there will be a lot of conflicts. If the government just focuses on the reform, some people who live there will feel uneasy for them to live and then cause the conflicts.

4. Do you feel the environment is a problem and we should be working to help preserve it or that governments should be concentrating on economic reform?
I really think it is a big problem. Over look the world, some places were flooded by the water; some places were covered by the heavy snow. We can see Japan was hit by the tsunami; some places in Italy were hit by the eruption of the volcano.
We can report factories which release some waste water in the rivers and ask the authorities fine them. Or our government has to force the factories to close, and that can solve the problem of water pollution
